So was there a data breach at Amazon? Last night their subreddit got flooded with thousands of people saying they recieved direct emails from them thanking them for buying gift cards, today news stories are following up on that. The strange thing is Amazon reps are telling customers different stories from: These aren't official emails (they are), an intern made a mistake, it was just an attempt to "test" users security, and there was a partial breach but data is safe.Feels like the are hiding how bad it is.

@Jim dude, in my experience its not Amazon security in itself thats the issue, its the clowns they hire. There was a massive leak of Capital One customer data a while ago, not because of a hack it was some retard that just did a "derp capitalism bad" and used access he was entrusted with to dump the stuff. So cool, grandmas credit card got leaked.

Amazon doesn't have security, they have security managers. All the a100 employee does is act as intermediators between Amazon and whichever vendor holds the contract.

@graf It's really strange, some people got emails some didn't. But all the people commenting are saying that support is giving out five or six completely different explanations which screams something got fucked hard and they are in a bit of a panic mode before they have a solid statment to publicly make.

@Jim It could be recent enough that they don't really know what happened. A company as big as Amazon probably does not talk between departments at all. This leaves customer reps to basically give it their best guess what's going on as far as they know until something comes down from on high. That's my guess anyway.

@Jim I want a law that forces website owners to pay compensation to all their registered users when their data is leaked/hacked. Like e.g. $1000 for every single leaked email address. Sure it might bankrupt them, but that will teach others not to use diversity hires to take care of security.
