A collector has uploaded nearly every "Chick Tract" from Chick Publications into one easy to read and browse item.https://archive.org/details/all-chick-tractsIf you've never heard of these, they're absolutely often-vile religious conversion pamphlets with weirdly comforting comic-book artwork accompanying the apocalyptic and guilt-throwing message. @SirTapTap Yes, 99% of the fascination of these came from finding them out in the world as completely insane-from-the-unknown fully-formed pamphlets. The more you read them, the joy kind of wore off, for sure.

@textfiles I have encountered two IRL and was shocked to learn on Wikipedia that the man did hundreds(I don't think he had a foundation then, or if he did it was subordinate to him as he was still alive)I worried that no one would ever find them all, randomly scattered places as they were, and the absurdity and cruelty would be lostI'm glad someone did

@SirTapTap Yeah, this was clearly a similar situation to a lot of creatives where you can tell there was a frenzied meeting between a lot of people whose livelihoods depended on the Founder's work and they were not quite sure what to do next, and punted. You can see that in Clancy works, L. Ron Hubbard's SF stuff, and so on. They decided to go full steam ahead but Chick had the knack for truly uncomfortable, unsettling choices of topics and writing.

@soilseacht Oh, there's absolutely a hellscape of keeping track of the secret/silent rewrites. Some people have tracked them pretty well. You can see in the description how the collector is trying to strike the balance of "official" and "withdrawn".

@textfiles back in the late 80s or early 90s, I bought the whole collection of them as a gift for my college roommate. We had so much fun reading through with doubled over laughter at the most ridiculous ones. Years later he said “that’s still the best gift a friend ever gave me”.

@textfiles there’s a local weirdo who has been furtively distributing them around my town. I chased him off one of my favorite cupcake stores that were horrified once they actually read what he had asked them to leave on their counter. He’s been actively targeting businesses that kids frequent. He ran away from me when I asked him what he was doing. So much for witnessing.
