Albert #Einstein's letter to The New York Times, December 4, 1948, discussing the Deir Yassin (دير ياسين) massacre of April 9th, 1948."A shocking example was their behavior in the Arab village of Deir Yassin. This village, off the main roads and surrounded by Jewish lands, had taken no part in the war, and had even fought off Arab bands who wanted to use the village as their base. On April 9 (The New York Times), terrorist bands attacked this peaceful village, which was not a military objective in the fighting, killed most of its inhabitants — 240 men, women and children— and kept a few of them alive to parade as captives through the streets of Jerusalem. Most of the Jewish community was horrified at the deed, and the Jewish Agency sent a telegram of apology to King Abdullah of Trans-Jordan. But the terrorists, far from being ashamed of their act, were proud of this massacre, publicized it widely, and invited all the foreign correspondents present in the country to view the heaped corpses and the general havoc at Deir Yassin."https://archive.org/details/AlbertEinsteinLetterToTheNewYorkTimes.December41948/page/n1/mode/2up@israel @palestine #zionism #fascism #israel #palestine

@oatmeal @israel @palestine There's much misinformation floating around about Deir Yassin, so just to note:* Some 1,000 people lived in the village. Of those a few more than 100 died (107? 110?).* The village had Jewish lands to its East, but Arab villages to its South West and North West.* There was an attempt to avoid fighting with them, but that was gradually collapsing due to the war all around.* The attack on them was indeed pointless and served no strateic need....

@oatmeal @israel @palestine People of Deir Yassin were generally well-prepared for an attack. They fended it off as well as they could. The battle there lasted well until late noon when the defenders ran out of ammo.So did the attackers, but they were resupplied by Haganah forces and also got an extra machine gun unit. And a force of the Arab Liberation Army in Ein Karem not only did not join the fight but didn't even resupply them ammunition.

@tzafrir @israel @palestine I think you’re missing the point. The clue is in the title “massacre”… Einstein and Arendt were not the only Jews to condemn it. But once again, as you like to do, regurgitating disinformation from Zionist Wikipedia, where you’re an operator who enables the settler-colonizers re-writing history, every Palestinian village is an armed fortress that needs to be “purified”. Also worth mentioning that the main “authority” to doubt the gravity of the massacre (or the mere “event” in Zionist Wikipedia #newspeak) in the article you’re trying to pass as legitimate source, is the Israeli historian Yoav Gelber - member of the defunct neo-fascist Tzomet party - who, conveniently, is an oft cited source about the 1948 war on the Zionist Wikipedia, while Morris is only allowed when his finding support the preferred narrative. Otherwise he’s an #antisemite.

@oatmeal @israel @palestine After the Deir Yassin attack practically everybody had an interest in portraying in as a massacre (including Palestinian deliberate misinformation). But this version mostly agrees with quite a few Palestinian researchers. For instance, a book by Walid Khalidy counts a list of 100 people who died in the battle. The myth is heavily entrenched in Israeli politics where the traditionally leftists ones sided with Meir Pa'il's unreliable testimony.

@tzafrir @israel @palestine first you rewrite the Zionist Wikipedia to suit your narrative needs, then you cite yourself as an authoritative source 🤓 job's a good'un
