on paper it doesn't seem actually that bad, but I somehow get worried again, just like when Epic originally acquired them

this is the result of a massive layoff by Epic (games) of their staff, due to "poorer" results in Fortnite predatory sales for this year's exercice...

@laamaa Epic did a fine job by doing nothing with BC for over a year. Problem is that songtradr isn't know of the general audience, or even by Bandcamp users (artists), because they're mostly the Unilever of music: owning all the rights of exploitation, leveraging to all the industry to cut costs and raises (their) profits, don't care about final clients, since their goal is only B2B.

@laamaa so, them acquiring a company where the goal is the total opposite of their own is quite... odd, at best.

@3D63 @laamaa I wouldn't say that the goal is totally opposite, it is however "music industry in digital era done right" where the artist has a choice how to offer their work (free, nyp, cc, disalowing streaming, etc), while songtradr seem to operate on the traditional model of licencing. if they will simply add some features in the direction of offering commercial licences to youtubers etc, and won't touch the existing features, that could be ok. but who knows.

@luka @3D63 @laamaa really hoping for the best, but it seems like bandcamp really poses a threat to the industry's streaming model, being one of the only ways musicians get actually paid unless they make it big
