So after 15 minutes of asking about podcast equipment I’ve killed my podcast. The most important item on Adam’s list (website) is over $650. That doesn’t include a microphone, editing software etc al.How do you people do it?If I so much as mentioned spending $300 on a mic my wife would kill me. Hell, if I tried to spend $50 on a mic she’d punch me in the dick.

@MartinDeLaToot Audacity is free. Laptops have surprisingly good mics too -- especially w/ noise canceling software, like you can get with OBS.

@pjbrunet @MartinDeLaToot if your laptop has decent mic array then sure. But frankly, if I were to sit for an hour or two and yap, I'd probably prefer having something on an arm. And you can get those at reasonable price too. Like this Sennheiser Profile. 200 bucks entire kit

@MartinDeLaToot just start with what you have.Setup V4V and if you start getting donations, you can feed that money into your startup.I wouldn't go into the hole for a hobby that you may or may not like.

@MartinDeLaToot The Best Cheap Podcast Gear for BeginnersI didn’t have the money to go splash out on whatever Joe Rogan or Tim Ferriss are using.https://jonathancarson.medium.com/everything-you-need-to-start-a-podcast-for-under-250-a6bef31c0fcfYou don't have to buy a pop filter, you can twist a coathanger into a hoop and stretch pantyhose across it.You probably already own a pair of headphones/earbuds/etcAudacity, or it's fork, Tenacity is a free, multi track audio recorder. So you need a microphone and a place for your RSS feed and audio files to live online

@MartinDeLaToot @pjbrunet that's microphone and arm, not just arm. And like it was said before, it can totally be done without it, it's just that sitting for hours in front of a laptop will trying to keep right distance from the built in microphones so you don't sound like that one guy on Skype who doesn't comprehend how to do a call might be detrimental to your neck and back ;)

@MartinDeLaToot the mic that article recommends is about $100, but if that's too steep, you can always pick up a cheap USB microphone from Walmart or what have you.Just get started. If you like it, and you start getting a lot of interest, you can always build up your hardware as you go.

@FortyTwo someone once said “all you need is a laptop and an internet connection.”The list is a bit longer and far more expensive. I wonder if my Bluetooth headphone’s wireless mic would do the trick?

@MartinDeLaToot That's what the kids use to stream their games and crap on YouTube, Twitch, etc. Interface looks confusing, but it's good software -- lots of tutorials on how to use it, and it works with Linux, you can plug in cameras, mics, videos, screencasts, photos, it does everything.
