Well, this made me happy. I was purchasing supplements for the #FATE #TTRPG called the FATE Space Toolkit. As I read it, I found it very scientifically accurate. Further, as I read it I found a couple of bits that seemed familiar. All was explained when I came to the bibliography. Among the erudite sources was a reference to my Atomic Rockets website. This brought a smile to my face. The purpose of my site is to help authors, I'm always glad when it does.

@nyrath I’ve never come across Fate before (perhaps because I’ve been away from actually playing TTRPGs for so many years now)—is this book comprehensible/useful from a general SF worldbuilding perspective (like e.g. ? Or is it so tied into the rule system that it only makes sense in the context of the game?

@tkinias @nyrath For what it's worth my general approach to stealing material from FATE has been to take the ideas and use any rules material as vague suggestions for the system I'm actually playing it in.

@RogerBW @nyrath that’s what I’ve tended to do with things like GURPS books...

@tkinias @RogerBW Some of those GURPS sourcebooks are solid gold. GURPS Traveller Far Trader is almost textbook quality.https://www.sjgames.com/gurps/traveller/fartrader/

@nyrath @tkinias And with the signal advantage of using real-world measures whenever possible - sure, US Customary, but I'll take what I can get.

@RogerBW @nyrath OMG I’d forgotten about GURPS’s utterly bizarre provincialism there—I remember throwing one of their vehicle-design books across the room in disgust when I realized it was all cubic feet and shit.

@tkinias @RogerBW Yeah, cubic feet passed me off as well. Unlike the metric system, used by the entire civilized world.I still have not forgiven Lockheed for the Mars Climate Orbiter fiasco.
