Dell sticking a tiny embedded ARM Linux system in a laptop to provide a quick-start OS is a little cursedbut can we just consider that having a second, independent low-power machine in the same case as the rest of the laptop would be pretty sweet, actually?

I would take "this is an SBC on an ExpressCard" honestly"

I think you can get cards for laptops with the modem module the PinePhone uses, and that's been jailbroken and flashed...

@Wizarth Don't forget the management engine, which is also its own little computer! :D

@ezio yeah, ExpressCard or mPCIe or whatever, alone, probably wouldn't give me all the things I want, but I'd still get a cute little standalone system inside my computer, albeit probably only while it's running, and with no way to switch video outputs or anything.

@Wizarth I gather TPM implementation varies wildly, on some devices it's a whole SoC on its own board, on others it's entirely emulated in firmware. :akko_shrug:

@izaya there is a mPCIe Variant of the EG25-G. If you need more documentation or firmware for it: we use it at work and I'm responsible for *a lot* of fixed bugs in it ^^' (and it still has some which are unfixed related to IPv6 with too old 3G cells and related to "getting stuck in 2G")

@izaya (our contact at quectel at one point wrote me a status update every monday because he knew that I would otherwise annoy him constantly :P)
