As someone who has watched the unwillingness of people to change their behaviour due to COVID and climate change, people refusing to do something simple like change the browser they use because it is being used to attack their computers when they have the ability to do so is perfectly predictable.

@grmpyprogrammer Assuming you are talking about Chrome, there are no viable alternatives that allow me to do my job. Safari has always been garbage. Firefox continues to have massive memory leaks not to mention it's own hidden privacy issues that imo are worse than Chrome (except that dark pattern bs Chrome just pulled). And our customers largely use Chrome so I can't just say "It works in [other browser]" and never test or troubleshoot with the one the majority of our customers actually use.

@thomas @grmpyprogrammer I’ve been 100% Safari for the past four years - can no longer use Chrome in good conscience. How is Safari “garbage?” Absolutely the best choice for Mac users and developers IMO.

@shacker As a user I can't stand the UI/UX, extensions I use aren't available, and in general extensions always lag way behind on that platform. As a developer it requires so much extra work because of how they decide to apply “standards”. Any time we release a new feature it works in Chrome, mostly works in Firefox just a few UI quirks to fix usually, and is entirely broken in Safari. In the past the dev tools were sorely lacking as well, but that could have improved since I last tried It.

@thomas I have noticed areas where Safari adheres to the standards more strictly than other browsers, especially where it relates to privacy or security, but otherwise have not had issues (I'm also a developer). It's the fastest and most secure and private browser for MacOS, and puts its emphasis on blocking trackers rather than encouraging them. But I don't use many extensions, so can't speak to that.
