It will not be enough for NATO countries to spend 2 percent of GDP on defense in the future. Two percent is the floor, not the ceiling. Said by someone at #ABCDTallinn2023.For this one the Chatham House rules are a bit frustrating, but it comes from someone who until recently would have said that 1.5 percent for his country was more than enough. #Zeitenwende

In an unrelated note, there's actually been very little information regarding general military related output increase in the EU beyond the common artillery purchase program. @hanse_mina There is a lot of tough statements and praise of Estonia's unwavering support for Ukraine, but many speakers are also expressing concern about the perspectives of a long frozen conflict. The problem with the slow European increase in military production is being mentioned by many speakers.As a general reflection I think the speakers have very different assumptions about the Russian goals with the war, and that leads to absolutely contradictory conclusions.#ABCDTallinn2023

@anderspuck Not sure that EU ammo production rates are such a stunning success are they? Aren’t the Americans having to plug the gap?As for the bridges, I believe that the greatest issue is Eastern Europe, that is one reason why Challenger and Abrams are less than ideal for Ukraine.
