Cooking rice with the rice cooker. Every few years I try again. I don't trust rice. No matter how many times I rinse it, the water is always cloudy. Not looking forward to cleaning up the entire kitchen later tonight.

@burkerivers Oh I know the instructions. But it never seems to work properly.

@ReadyKilowattI never had luck rinsing, not rinsing, big pot, little pot, or rice cooker. Always a mess or scorched on the bottom, then I tried the instant pot. It comes out perfect and no mess. For brown rice it's 1 part rice to 1 1/4 water or broth 22 minutes with a 15 minute natural release, then release the remaining pressure and voilà rice.

@ReadyKilowatt depends on what brand of rice. I would recommend Indian or Persian Basmati long grain rice. First wash with cold water. Scrub it with both hands. Rinse a couple of times and drain. Soak in water for an hour. Cook however you like.

@ReadyKilowatt If you aren't anti-microwave, here is my method for perfect rice: I use a 3/1 ratio of water/rice. Rinse the rice until water is clear. If you can't achieve it you may need a different brand of rice. Use a glass, microwave-safe dish which is twice the volume of the rice+water. See 2nd reply for the rest.

@ReadyKilowatt Once the rinse water is poured off, measure the correct ratio (above) of water, add some salt (1/4 teaspoon/cup of rice) and microwave 10 minutes. Immediately cover with lid and let stand 10 minutes. remove lid and microwave again for 5 minutes. Cover as before and fluff with a fork before serving.

@yarnlady I've made it in my pressure cooker (manual instant pot) and that's much better, just thought I'd try again with the cooker. Should just get rid of the thing since it takes up a ton of shelf space.

@ReadyKilowattMine scorched in the cooker every time, I ditched it and never had a single regret. Reclaim your shelf space (and your time from cleaning the mess, lol)!

@yarnlady It actually worked last night. But rice wasn't any better than in the pressure cooker and took much longer.

@ReadyKilowatt As much as I hate single purpose tools, the Amazon Basics Mini Rice Cooker works great for me. Rinse inside the inner vessel, one button, just use a bit more water than indicated on the marker. Probably depends on rice.
