       Tipping culture is the most insane thing to me because SOMEHOW corporations have convinced people that they are not to blame for low pay and they should go harass customers instead. The 'anti-capitalist' left cheers on this btw.

       The workers perpetuate it by refusing to admit they make better money than the job is worth because of aggressive social contract around tipping. They complain about big ticket customers not paying more and everyone goes "what a dick" instead of "you take items from one place to another."Then they bring up their hourly pay being sub-minimum wage but never talk about how they pull down $150+ bucks a night in tips alone while the cook made $80 for the same shift.

       @gozfarber @jetzkrieg Cooks don't have to pay for gas or car maintenance, plus Doordash is a job-to-job contracting position so income taxes aren't taken out and there isn't even a wage. If you're not delivering, you're not earning a penny, and you have to set aside a set amount for April 15.People against tipping are better off preparing their own food. Doordash gets its cut if you patronize them, not tipping is just screwing the guy at the bottom.

       @jetzkrieg People in general are more eager to attack those who are just as powerless as they are and have nothing do with their ordeals, not the corporation, government or any other powerful body that is directly responsible and attacking which might actually have impact.Tragedy arises when they consider this sort of thing activism. For example why block the road so some truck/tanker driver has to deal with it — go, burn the office of the oil company down? No, you might go to prison for that and the worst the driver could do is punch you in a face, but most probably won't do even that.People tend to go for the easiest route — what makes it vicious is the false sense of accomplishment :marseyshrug:
