Last night #Russia destroyed hotel "Odessa" in #Ukraine town of the same name, claiming it was a "naval HQ". Even Russian journalist Dmitriev, who is originally from Odessa, says this is nonsense as the hotel is located at a pier of sea port in a very exposed place and it was long disused since sea traffic was largely halted in 2022. The main purpose of this attack was likely revenge for Sevastopol and mostly for Russian audience, to show a big nice building in Ukraine burning.

Russia is unable to strike a militarily significant target so it picks soft targets as retaliation.

@sysop408 Not quite. It's part of the twisted Ruzzian fascist ideology. Since they don't see Ukrainians as humans, they target facilities where they can cause a lot of deaths and tragedy to eradicate what they describe as Nazis, demons, or whatsoever. It's not like all Ukrainian military facilities are moving targets, so even Russians could hit factories and other military-relevant stuff. They choose not to. And that makes it even worse. It also means that Ruzzia will have to be defeated at some point like Hitler's Nazi-Germany.@kravietz

@TobiWanKenobi Yes, I'm reminded of this rather prescient message from Oz Katerji near the start of the full scale war. Killing civilians isn't a bug. It's a feature of how Russia operates.I'd have to differ that they could hit other targets whenever they wanted to though. They did more of that earlier in the war when they took out a number of factories. Either they've already hit all the ones that they could easily hit or their ability's been degraded from wasting so many missiles on hospitals, power plants, and train stations. @kravietz

@sysop408Yes, it has degraded now because they used up a lot of missiles. But even earlier in the war, they struck a lot of civilian facilities, making the quote of Oz very true. Of course, even Ruzzians wouldn't use all their missiles on just civilian targets, no matter how incompetent their military might otherwise be.But them striking the grain facilities in Odessa etc. after the grain deal ended clearly shows that they'd be capable of hitting certain targets if they want to and although Ruzzian intelligence agencies are as corrupt as the rest of their system, I wouldn't underestimate them too much. @kravietz

@subpanelYeah, dehumanization is a key part of fascism. Fascism is the idea of some people being "chosen," "superior," or "good." Naturally, this classification of people requires antipodes to make the distinction which is why the Nazis of Germany regarded Jews, minorities, and other political parties as inferior and denied their humanity. At the same time, the fascists around Hitler dreamed of being superior "Ariers."The same you can see happening in Ruzzia, where propaganda has completely shifted towards demonizing the West and denying Ukrainians their humanity. For me this is a key factor why I regard today's Ruzzia as fascist state. And another reason why I believe that this war won't be over until Ruzzia falls apart in one way or another.@sysop408 @kravietz
