       @brosandprose Okay but flip this to ā€œabusive men more likely to earn less than their female partnersā€ and maybe we can actually make some progress. Abusers suffer from a whole range of issues that likely impact their earning potential, from being denied promotions to being fired more often. They need to address those issues to improve work and personal relationships. Itā€™s not about what women earn. Itā€™s about men not getting help with their issues.

       @brosandprose I can tell you for a fact that that is true. Happened in my first marriage. I was the only reason he and I could afford to live in the neighborhood we lived. All the other husbands were 6-figures with breeders for wives. Mine was barely making $50K, which obviously isn't a small chunk of change but it didn't even cover the annual mortgage. And that's just the mortgage. Not the cars & extracurricular assets I funded. He hit me one time too many so I hit the road. Stronger erry day.

       @brosandprose I never tell my stories to get sympathy or empathy. It's only with a sincere desire to remind folks they absolutely have the strength to get out of any crappy situation. I'm not the first woman to escape and I surely won't be the last.        @brosandprose Earning more than your male partner isn't a causal relationship, in terms of statistics. It just means that men prone to domestic violence are also prone to reduced employment, maladaptive behavior on the job so they get fired more often, and have a societal permission structure that enables facile self-justifications for violence against women.

       @brosandprose The number has to be higher. There is a reason why my sister tells me she won't work or make her husband clean. She knows that it helps her avoid violence. Period. Conservative women who say women shouldn't work or best a man understand this. They pretend not to however. But yeah, the fact that women have devised so many strategies to avoid violence is proof that we are always under that threat.
