@KJ7OFH This is interesting. I had some unease about js8call based on some exchanges in the groups.io messages some months back.It is also interesting that they promote JS8 QSO parties, and it just doesn’t seem to take off. Based on my experience it is just a little too difficult to use, and there are other digital mode activities that are more rewarding.

@nonlinear @KJ7OFH Did some digging when I saw the blog post the other day. Just unsub'd from the groups.io for that. This thing is dead to me.Time to try something else.

@KJ7OFH Good thing it's open source and anybody can just remove that functionality if they don't like it.Honestly, we should fork it. The code seems unmaintained at this point with the last release being 3 years old. 🤔

@abortretryfail If someone were to do that, I'd certainly give it a try.

@KJ7OFH @abortretryfail @n3xls Forking the client would be one important step, but it would be wise to find a new default frequency as well because the current default "watering hole" frequency is poisoned.

@ke8smq @KJ7OFH @n3xls Why? Do you want to be alone in an empty channel or make contacts with the vast majority of JS8 users who have absolutely nothing to do with that group? This is a narrow weak signal mode that packs dozens of conversations in the passband. Somebody you don't like is operating on the frequency next to you? Just block them and don't relay their traffic. There's a flip side to that. How is anyone going to know if there's malfeasance if we stop listening?

@abortretryfail @ke8smq @KJ7OFH @n3xls BIG JS8 fan here. I've been using it nearly daily for years and never come across this. Turn the VFO, build a fork, go on your way and enjoy life
