Well, THAT was fun.Hear cat explosion in hall. This is not unusual.Went on for more than a few seconds. That is.Figured I had to break it up, went into hall. Found Madame Curie, our recently-adopted stray, *horribly* entangled in a cloth totebag. We're talking "shibari professionals would be impressed". (And if you don't know what that it, don't google it at work.)Beth is trying to wrangle away the other cats, I get on the floor to try to help.Manually untangling is right out.Beth gets some scissors while I try to keep Madame calm, which isn't easy. She does trust me, but she's also terrified and in pain. I can calm her momentarily, but any change can set her off.1/3#CatsOfMastodon

2/3I see where the straps are tightest, and I can easily cut them without hurting her -- but they are so tightly wound that any attempt to touch them, just to slip the scissors under, turns her into a whirling, spitting, biting, clawing, ball of fear and fury. (Trying to 'purrito' her only increased her terror; I'll take a few d4 in slashing damage* to spare her more trauma.)Carefully, very carefully, I try to snip away more of the bag in places where she'll let me cut, hoping to cause enough disruption to cause it to detangle. (A little applied topology!)(I figure I'm a 4th or 5th level Expert; I have enough HP to survive 2-3 rounds with a cat, esp. one with the 'young' template.)#CatsOfMastodon

3/3 Eventually, I manage it. The part that was holding the twisted part to the rest of the bag was cut through, Madame bolts as the worst of the pressure is relieved, and leaves the remains behind as she runs to hide.I've checked on her, she's in our bedroom closet, behind the clothes. This is very close to food and water. We'll give her alone time to decompress. The way she took off, and that she climbed a few boxes and burrowed through the clothes, makes me believe she hasn't suffered any real injury, though we'll keep an eye on how she walks when she decides it's safe to come out.
