Well they did, back when the entire Catholic church was scandal after scandal. Now I'm curious if Catholic church attendance started falling in the 90s/00s during all of that.The police did start prosecutions back then and the church did get better at moving priests around and hiding it. They are fairly powerful. Church attendance is down across the board all over the US/EU/UK. I'm sure it's a problem in the church still, but I suspect they're better at damage control now. Schools are much more in the public eye and you don't really have a choice if you have kids and don't have the means to home school.

I also think it's just super difficult to prosecute. If a kids comes forward when he or she is 22, actual evidence trails will run cold. Sexual crimes are difficult to prosecute. It's not a "rape culture" as some leftist scream about, it's that you need evidence for crimes. You can't just take someone's word unless you want some witch trials.

I just think back to people who couldn’t make it in Engineering dropped to Computer Science (my degree). When they couldn’t make it in CS, they switched to a Business degree (CIS/MIS .. different names at different schools) and if they couldn’t make it there, they switched to Education.Nurses who can’t make it often end up in Education too. It’s like the last useful degree you can drop to before hitting Gender Studies.
