"New Study Shows Impacts of Cutting Meat and Dairy Consumption in Half."Most Americans would also be healthier if they cut their consumption of meat & dairy. This proposition is more palatable for many ppl than going vegan: Such a dietary shift could also lead to a 31% reduction in AG GHG emissions by 2050, the study found *the equivalent of not burning 1.8T lbs. of coal/year b/w 2020-50. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateSolutions #ClimateSmart https://www.motherjones.com/environment/2023/09/meat-dairy-consumption-farming-livestock-climate-emissions/

@KimPerales Sorry, but I have access to lots of well raised meat and dairy. It would be stupid to replace that with food shipped in from elsewhere.I don't feel well when I eat too much grains and legumes.

@KimPerales US chain restaurants adopting European portion sizes would a help meet the goal nicely. Hard to see Claim Jumper ever doing it.

@KimPerales I am so grossed out by meat anyway, between the cows with prion disease in Tennessee, the bird flu, and the fact that children are cleaning the meat processing plants and processing meat in meat processing plants, I can’t think of anything more unsanitary than meat processed by kids. 🤢 Nope no thank you!I can’t use soy because of endometriosis, but pea protein and even whey is better than dead animals “processed” by unsanitary children.

@KimPerales Good to know so that concerned people can make wiser choices. However, I wonder if the Fee and Dividend system (proposed by Dr. Hansen for fossil fuels) could also be applied to the meat and dairy industries so that making wise choices are also less expensive. Like carbon fuels the social cost of meat and dairy consumption is not reflected in its pricing. @KimPerales we’ve been doing this for years. Did not know we were helping the planet too. We are both allergic to milk. We cannot eat most meat products at all without some type of digestion issues.

@KimPerales Man, and I can’t even want to eat fish. I think of what’s happening to the oceans and become immeasurably sad.

@KimPerales Unfortunately the choice of not eating meat has been dragged into the culture war as well. Trawl through any post on the birdsite discussing vegan issues and there's always the same people saying they'll swing the other way (eating only meat) even if it makes them ill. Apparently eating less meat is a ploy by the lefties to bankrupt the economy and turn us all into communists.
