@gentop I'll be moving the operations to another server before letting this one die, of course I'll keep a backup and let you guys have an account there

@EricZhang456 @waifu I'd prefer if the last vestiges of instances that spawned when I joined did not die out.

@dcc @EricZhang456 @waifu Not really, but I'm getting tired of all the peers I like shutting down because of pleroma's AIDS.besides cyberia and mint's instances there used to be way more cliques, I don't want to just be stuck with the 5 big Pleroma/soapbox instances

@Tadano @dcc @EricZhang456 @waifu Cause it's written in a weird ass language that no one knows, the database likes to eat up your disk IO. Your options for AIDS medication are to Vacuum the DB or get better and better hardware. If neither of those worked then something else broke. In which case a reinstall of the instance (but not the database) can probably fix 90% of any issue being experienced. Otherwise you update elixir, erlang, update postgres. Those are realistically your only options when fixing things. Anything else and you'd need to look at source code.

@splitshockvirus @dcc @EricZhang456 @waifu I vacuum the DB regularly and my instance only has three people who consistently post anything. This instance runs on a Zimaboard with 4 gigs of RAM and the storage is on a 1TB SSD hooked up with USB3. How fucked am I?Also I'm a tad surprised nobody knows Elixir. To my knowledge it's like Erlang but nicer(?) (correct me if I'm totally off base) and more recent. Erlang was pretty widely used in telecom IIRC. Given Erlang's design goal was "write once, run forever" according to the creators, the industry that it was made for I can understand why one would write server software for the Erlang VM.

@Tadano @splitshockvirus @EricZhang456 @waifu Repack is better and your instance stays online, otherwise pleroma is fine and real breakages are pretty rare (most people recently didn't want to update it anymore) Also erlang is fine.

@Tadano @dcc @EricZhang456 @waifu Your instance is probably going to be fine then. It's the lower IOPS VPS instances that usually run into these issues first. IOPS get restricted at the hypervisor level to something like 5000-10000 because they don't think you'll need more but it varies based on provider.

@splitshockvirus @waifu @waifu thank you for the offer, I'll have to let you know first that I'm using the docker version of akkoma, there's several backups and the original db before I moved to docker, I had to move from the last update
