Everything is bits and pieces, these days. Like… I love the level of information and intellectual stimulation I get on mastodon, but I feel anything BUT safe to be emotionally vulnerable on here.

@platypusparent Not… That new. I've been here for 3 years, and there were definitely already people here when I got here. But the off-the-rack infrastructure is just not geared for it, and even with the tweaks available to mods/admins, the ability to be public and the sense of feeling cared for are just not nurtured together in this place.

@Wolven For me there's an interesting paradox at work: I felt safer to be emotionally vulnerable on Twitter because there was so very much noise & the algorithm so effectively buried me that no one would ever notice what I wrote.here, people notice. Smaller pond, bigger splash.

@Wolven Interesting - I hadn't thought of that before. For me, it's less not feeling safe and more not feeling impelled, iykwim. There are things where my immediate reaction is to post to Mastodon and others where my urge is to post someplace else (any of several choices). Over time I've decided I'm ok with that. I like having a place with more info and less drama, since I have places for the emotional stuff. Different people, different needs.
