Yeah but the issue is not just the machine but the kits as well. I just don't want to have to go to the hospital every time I sneeze funny when I know the blood tests they'll run to check for an issue. Even a fucking 12 led EKG machine is behind a wall. So because I had the heart attacks and stents put in I have to be proactive about any weird symptoms that pop up. The problem is does that mean waiting to see a primary or going to the hospital right away which are way different cost and timewise. Since the two main tests I wanted were to check BNP and Troponin I went looking for a machine that could do it and found one. The great thing is it's whole blood testing so I don't need a centrifuge to spin it and the time is only 15 minutes for a result. So if they showed raised numbers I'd know I have to go in but if not I could wait and just see a primary doctor. The other was a 12 led ekg to see how the heart was acting. The crazy thing I keep running into is every provider of medical equipment needs a ton of documentation for it. I didn't expect that. If it were medications/drugs sure I could see why but for testing equipment?

I've worked with hospitals for quite a few years, often in managing projects so I do have some exposure to procurement of equipment. Usually vendors of medical equipment require training to operate their particular devices and usually it requires a service contract to have a qualified tech come in regularly to test and calibrate the equipment to ensure accuracy. Also for something like lab results it isn't simple to calculate the correct ranges based on the raw data from the machine. For many results you need to compensate for age, sex, race, weight and various conditions to get a valid result. Of course they could just make you sign away your rights, but they can't be bothered to deal with individuals, it's just not worth their time.

There's even a portable one for under $1,000.Nope, you have to be a licensed practitioner, and it must be purchased by the business, not an individual.ER charges my insurance $220 for one test; GP and cardiologist charge $70 (not covered due to deductible, I paid $47 after insurance discount).Lab charges are even more outrageous. The hospital's charge for 2 tests would have been like $300, Quest's is over $100; the actual cost (besides 5 minutes of the phlebotomist's time) is a couple bucks.

I mean you're supposed to vent it outside, but yes that would be bad. Also a minor detail but I was mistaken when I said the nitrogen boils off. The helium (which is kept cold by nitrogen) boils off, but it seems nothing really happens to the nitrogen itself.

I really doubt the majority of medical equipment is made to the highest standard. I'm sure there are hospitals right now using cheap, Chinese made machines to do their diagnostic work and then telling their patients it's the best care money can buy.

@LivingSpaceStudios @Sui @Jim @graf That's just it though. Everything is made in china, it really depends on how sophisticated (expensive) the parts are to produce to make the equipment. I'm sure some chink could easily find any given good quality genuine piece of the puzzle and make a schematic to replicate shitty cheap parts but the main concern is if all those parts will even operate properly. You pretty much have to assume that the cheaper you go with this shit the more inaccurate it will be as well. I'd rather take my chances with paying out the ass instead of pretty much buying the webMD equivalent in Chinese sweatshop shit that you can't get warranty/support for. Most of the time the manuals come in broke English if at all. At least you will know its working as intended instead of the equipment killing you or showing up dead on arrival đ€Ł But yeah Aliexpress/Wish/Temu is fucking crazy with what you can order on those sites. I genuinely wonder if people actually get some of the crazier shit that is listed on them.
