Fitting the current vote in the vidya girl contest, a thought on Patchouli's appearance. It's a slightly uncommon appearance to give her, but I'd imagine Patchy being quite lacking in any fat, and being overall quite small and weak. None of her canon pieces of art show her being big in any way, no tits, no ass, and somewhat short too (with one of ZUN's emails specifying she's "fairly short" like Marisa or Youmu). She's also described as sickly, with a weak constitution, asthma, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency, with all these illnesses making her weaker than the average human physically according to Akyuu. Magicians in general are often described as sickly due to their overall handling of deadly and poisonous substances, with someone like Marisa being an exception somehow. She's also a bit of a shut in, never going outside and likely flying around for most her movement. In reality this was an excuse to post small Patchy, but it's fun to think about this.Also Zun never drew Patchouli with stripes. He's the only one who never did. Everyone else just figured she had 'em.

Just to make this an actual thread for now, a quickie. Capes. Whenever a final boss has a cape, they tend to have a strange cape. Utsuho's cape contains a galaxy, Sumireko's occultic symbols, and Chimata's the sky. I suppose it's to give all the capes meaning to the individual characters, as all of them fit the abilities of the respective one that wears it. Capes a cute little aspect of character designs that most people wouldn't give much thought beyond fitting the outfit, but I like seeing ZUN do more with them.I would've also kept this up with the Patchouli theming a bit but she just wears pajamas and she's pretty much the only one to do so.

@Vidmastereon Marisa is a magician, just a really damn weird one. She's a human whose gained the ability to "use magic", which means she retains her humanity while using powers generally only tied to the magician race. She also puts a lot of work into using magic, spending almost all her time we don't see her to research magic, even if it's a lot of stolen spells based on her memories and notes of seeing others attacks. Even with that, it takes a lot of effort to learn how to recreate something you've seen. A good example of this was recently in Lotus Eaters, where she spends time trying to research Oni magic

Looking into magician race in Touhou again real quick brought up an important fact. Magicians learn 2 important magics to gain their title as part of the magician race, Abandon Worms and Abandon Food. Abandon Worms stops all growth and aging within the body, meaning that a magician's appearance ends up stuck as they were when that fully set in. Abandon Food does exactly as it says, removes the need for an appetite. This is also why Marisa is a bit of an outlier for magicians, since she stubbornly hasn't learned either of these magics while having the know how to be able to copy so many others. This means that Patchy, with her appearance described as it is, probably had learned Abandon Worms before she was even 18 years old.
