Having a phone even in one's pocket at my job is a terminable offense. Imagine 12 hours with no human interaction, wrangling a failing band saw, inspection table, robot, pallet stacking and dispensing system, and conveyors, and all you can do is think.No phone, no smartwatch, no GBA with an Everdrive, no eBook (because print books would be ruined in minutes thanks to all of the shit in the air), not even a goddamn $2 FM radio.

Operation. Maintenance is a fucking nightmare, as the company is doing it's damnedest to keep several millions of dollars' worth of specialized heavy equipment running, relying solely on people who have random experience levels in random technical and mechanical fields, with almost no spare parts, and fuck all for tools.They tend to ignore me when I ask questions like "If you're the only confirmed blood match for a family member, and time is of the essence, what is the logic in hoping that somebody will answer the hotline in the office when the office staff has left for the day, and we're already grossly understaffed?"

This started because some zoomer fuck saw molten metal overflowing out of a casting mold, then turned his back on it to fuck around on his phone.Yes, clearly the phone was the cause of the disaster, which happened in one specific facility, and has not happened in any other. Everyone now has one more thing to worry about being terminated for, that isn't "pushing someone into the furnace" or "setting a sixteen thousand pound bundle of metal on top of someone's car".

A few people are doing that, but nobody is safe from termination. They're just not being paid attention to. The company has no concept of the value of any individual employee, much less the unlikeliness of them to cause issues that would negatively impact safety or the bottom line. They're kind of shoot first, and shoot the questions later.

I'm never not, but it took twelve years to get this one, and in that time, I was only ever called back by one other company (that was later found to be a far worse place than where I work now). Having a STEM degree on your CV, and a call center on your work history, is poison for acquiring employment. The low-pay places think you'll jet as soon as the magical career fairy shits out a better paying job, and waste their precious training budget, and the higher paying places don't want you swinging that diploma around (or just think you're retarded because every time they called the phone company, they got some moron in Mexico or the Philippines who took twenty minutes to understand the issue).
