@daviddelven Somewhat cryptic thought, though. :) What is it you see? @ednico

@anders @ednico Indeed. I see many folks from the longform writing complaining about friction when using tools where Metadata is the core. And now that Onsdn is making up its YAML, I would like to read what those folks think on friction there.

@daviddelven @ednico Ah. I haven’t seen those complaints – and I can’t get why that is a problem. The features are there, but you are not forced to use them. You can start using Tana as a pure outliner, only making use of the supertags once you need them. But if not used to thinking about metadata, I think the plain text approach is more accessible.

@anders @ednico I meant Obsidian. Metadata was already there and many users also have used them woth YAML amd Dataview. But there are many others that come from the, let's say, Writing side of things, that might find the friction of buttons and metadata filling an step towards a more friction experience.

@daviddelven @ednico Yeah, I got that the comment was about Obsidian. But just as you can use Tana without the supertags (which is how many beginner tutorials frame it) the same will is true for Obsidian? That the feature is there doesn’t mean it have to be used. So I don’t see why this should mean anything specific should someone already have a working workflow?

@anders @ednico Ok. Fair. The existence of features does not mean you have to use them. However, building some features provides some functionality that, in some cases, becomes part of the core of the app UI/UX for the next months/years. You can skip it, but...

@daviddelven @ednico Agree. There is probably a thin line to walk in UX design. Making features available for those who wants them, not forcing them on the rest.
