Collaborative storytelling that speaks to a primeval cowboy need to entertain each other around a bonfire.Mongoose is running an extremely intense one right now, in which my old mentor character recently died in an encounter with an insane moon cultist, prompting the rest of the party to take stock of what truly mattered to them on their journey to save the world from the wicked lunar influence driving people mad.Aside from that, I also work out, and raise sheep, and enjoy cooking some dang good food.How about you?

@Rose @mkultra Cooking can be a chore if done solely for mass food production, but it can also be done in such a way as to produce much more time-intensive enjoyable dishes. I tend to think of the latter as more of a hobby, involving exploring cooking techniques and recipes and ingredients, while the former is just something you have to do.That's cool that you ride horses. I've actually never done that before, but I've always wanted to. There's something very primal about the call of the cavalry.I believe einkorn is one of the plants in the cover crops we use in the garden between growing something more desired. I haven't ever eaten it though. I could imagine it making good pizzas, though! I used to make some whole grain, homemade pizza dough for my own pizzas from scratch, and man that was good.What sorta toppings do you like on a pizza?

@Rose @mkultra Fair enough. I like a lot of toppings, from spinach to pepperoni and olives and mushrooms and a bunch of stuff, honestly. Just no pineapples :holo_tongue: The sheep are for meat! I've executed 10 of them now, and skinned and butchered them. Just had some lambchops yesterday for lunch and they were insanely delicious. Ridiculously so!There's still another 40 sheep left, so probably going to slay 4 of them this year and process them too. Maybe 6, if there's room in the chest freezer!

@Rose @mkultra they weigh about 95-100 lbs, after a bit less than a year.And yes, I’ve killed every single sheep I’ve butchered aside from the first one. A friend of my dad insisted he was an expert in slaughtering livestock, but when he did it the lamb was alive for a full ten minutes after having its throat slit, still responding to taps on its eyes and everything.I was horrified, and vowed to never let one of my sheep suffer like that, ever. And I have not.Every single one I’ve killed has died extremely swiftly. I’ve become very good at it.

@Tadano @Rose @mkultra I’ve eaten sheep heart and liver. They’re fine. Heart is a bit chewy, liver is good with onions but it gave me gout after I ate a whole one, and I’ll never eat it again.The organs actually go into the maggot bucket for the chickens to enjoy! No waste that way.

Glad to hear the heart's slightly chewy, I'm quite fond of it though all the heart I've had has been chicken hearts which are bite-sized. I feel like heart would have to be sliced, which thinking about the chewiness that would make it like calamari with a red meat taste.

Held back far enough to avoid muzzle burns, petting them to keep them calm.The brainstem and back of the brain is instantly destroyed, all suffering and awareness immediately ends. But I also cut the neck to let them bleed out a bit prior to hanging up for skinning and gutting.It sounds brutal, but I make sure it is the gentlest death any animal could receive.

@Tadano @Rose @mkultra well no, a maggot bucket is a bucket where you put the waste organic matter and viscera (which doesn’t do well in the compost), with holes drilled in the side of the bucket so that flies can go in there, lay their eggs, and allow the maggots to proliferate within. Eventually the maggots overflow and fall out of the holes, which the chickens then eat off of the ground.I’ve eaten chicken heart, sheep heart, and cow heart. I’ll definitely say that chicken heart is the worst, and the other two are about the same.

Was kind of wondering if the chickens pecked a bit at the meat lolIf chicken heart is the worst of the three I very much look forward to having the latter two. Not entirely surprising given chicken gizzards are pretty much better chicken hearts (they're very lovely boiled then fried up with parsley, salt, pepper and onion). I'm surprised you never had tongue! I've had beef tongue before and it's absolutely excellent. Texture is very tender and the flavour's out of this world.
