@IdahoLark No, I haven't read it. It can be hard emotionally for me to get through WWII stories. My dad was forever changed by the war and didn't talk much after it.

@GiddingsMJ You should definitely not read it then. That book was intense. While it is about the triumph of spirit over adversity, what that man suffered and survived was mind blowing. For me it was like reading about Ernest Shackleton’s trials. I’ll never whine about being hungry or cold or uncomfortable again.

@IdahoLark I bought a ride on one many years ago. I also bought a ride for a WWII vet who was there, some of the best money I've ever spent, watching that man turn into a 20 year old again when he entered that aircraft. I wouldn't ride one again - they tend to go down more often than I'm comfortable with anymore.

@OMWAC Yikes. One reason why I don’t need it flying laps over my house. But it sounds like you had a cool ride before that and gave a vet some good memories. I like seeing history preserved.
