What do you call a woman who has to work with her baby because she doesn't have paid maternal leave? An American!

@Radical_EgoCom mothers working like that is not exactly a usa thing. Be it by necessity or by choice, mothers slinging their baby onto their body (that also frequently nourishes that baby) throughout the day is quite common. Toiling the land, the rice wadis, the factory floors, fighting the enemy in guerilla warfare; everywhere. Having to get rid of said baby somehow in order to be able to go through said day may or may not be a perk. Ymmv.

@js @Radical_EgoCom There's this thing called progress - you might have heard of it? (Though it doesn't sound like you'd find it very interesting. 😞)

@evilmicrowizard @Radical_EgoCom Firmly believe in it; as K. Vonnegut Jr. said it, “Every passing hour brings the solar system 43,000 miles closer to globular cluster M13 in Hercules - and still there are some misfits who insist that there is no such thing as progress.”

@js @Radical_EgoCom Do you though? Because your waving off mothers having to carry babies with them while doing menial and/or dangerous work doesn't sound like it.

@evilmicrowizard @Radical_EgoCom “Having to” is your assumption. The picture shows a woman carrying a baby, seemingly at work. Whether she wants to or whether she’s compelled to? One can guess, and I’m inclined to agree it’s probably out of necessity.“Probably” is not “certainly”.I was actually surprised, during and after covid lockdowns, to find out how many people actually *wanted* to go to work, just to get out of the house. To each their own.

@js @evilmicrowizard Yeah, I suppose there is a chance that a person wants to carry a 60 pound baby while standing up for eight hours at a minimum wage job, but I think it's very likely that the vast majority of people don't want to do that. You're completely missing the point of this meme, that being that people shouldn't have to do this.
