I was all set to go on a bike ride for the first time in probably 4 years. Beautiful day. Tons of finding equipment, inflating tires, etc.And the I took a bad fall in my driveway on the way out. In the mother f'ing g-- da** driveway!So now instead of being on a lovely ride, I'm sitting here with ice on my hip, knee, and wrist (typing one handed).The only good thing is that my helmet stayed on securely. I've always wondered if it would.

@ProcessParsnip Thanks. Good advice too! Fortunately the helmet didn't touch the ground. My husband says it wasn't a serious helmet test. I contend that I lurched violently in many directions and it stayed put.

@grammargirl Aint that the way?I laugh at people who say they don't wear a helmet because they don't do anything crazy. Most crashes are when you're just starting off or stopping. I've hit the ground more like that then I ever have riding something technical.

@panamared27401 No fortunately my head didn’t hit. My arm and wrist took the brunt of that region. Nothing broken though, maybe not even sprained, so I feel lucky. Just sore, I think.

@grammargirl Ugh, glad you didn't get hurt too badly. I was gawking at an airplane flyover recently and tipped my bike over. Sitting. At a stop sign. It was really embarrassing. I'm glad nobody saw me.

@grammargirl I'm glad to hear it. I asked because a hard impact on a helmet can introduce hairline cracks that make it less safe, particularly if the helmet is an older model. So -- and I dearly hope you never need this tip -- if your helmeted head ever does hit anything hard, you'll probably want to buy a new helmet even if the old one has no obvious damage.

@grammargirl oof, I’m sorry you took a fall. I hope you’re able to recover soon. I have had this type of thing happen to me. When it happened to me it was really bad, without a helmet. I haven’t ridden a bike since.
