@clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf haha you think that’s messed up? The reason the US doesn’t have universal PTO or healthcare, is partially due to union lobbying against it. They don’t want non-union members to have the same benefits, because then non-unionised workers wouldn’t need unions, or so their thinking went. Not to say big business and wealthy don’t share the blame, but people forget that unions only represent the people they represent.

@AlexanderMars @clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf Unions and work-related laws are attempts to address the symptoms of the underlying problem: Our economy is built on for-profit corporations, not cooperatives, which sets up a three-way conflict of interest between workers, customers, and owners. It's in the owners' best interests to screw over the workers and customers for personal profit, and they are in a position of power to do so. But if the owners are the same people as the customers and/or workers, that goes away, because they'd just be screwing themselves.

@hosford42 @clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf I don’t think abolishing corporate structures short term would actually do more than move the goal post of exploitation and oppression. As evident in the USSR and modern China. I’ve always liked communism in theory, unfortunately humanities practice of it leaves much to be desired. Syndicalism is a start, but we also need to move away from 19th century style agro/industrial “wealth” creation.

@AlexanderMars @hosford42 @clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf Communism can only ever be a pretty theory, bc it relies on people to serve a common cause, and humans are remarkably selfish and tribal, as we can still plainly see. Moreover, Communism is a philosophy created and espoused by white men at a time when neither women nor POC had any rights at all.
