Regular reminder that "embrace, extend, extinguish" was invented by Microsoft.Now, Microsoft says it is "embracing" Linux and open source in general.Be afraid. Be very afraid.

@ParadeGrotesque Yes, it's terrible... I imagine all IT dept. that use to follow all MS techno without thinking about what they do, just to open an umbrella ("I have done what I had to do, everybody does the same thing"), installing MS/Linux to be in the current trend. And then installing Linux Exchange, Linux MS SQL, Linux ASP, Linux from the Microsoft Linux Repository Store... cool they are open source... but installing them on Azure servers because they don't run elsewhere 😳

@ParadeGrotesque yeah.. they are doing it a “solid” and allowing “linux” to be booted via the windows finder.. or some similar idiosyncratic illogical horse hockey. no thanks. i dont understand how anyone can deal with windows, i really dont. unless its for their job, or they’re addicted to video games with complex drivers but windows .. is a virus. afaic..(concerned)

@ParadeGrotesque Agreed, and we need better antimonopoly/competition/antitrust/anticartel law and enforcement everywhere. Especially in the US. Europe can be better-ish (but I'm not convinced the Europe would condemn domestic giants as vigorously). But that doesn't just apply to MSFT and would affect others, including other tech giants.(Please stop making me defend MSFT....!)

@ParadeGrotesque @richard4444 Remember that vscode is encroaching all the GNU/Linux computers day by day. We don't have a complete #freesoftware alternative. I suggest people #kate from #kde or #atom but only kate is packaged. Yes people suggest codium but its just depending on upstream evil 👿

They embrace Linux because not doing it would be its death. I don't really see them as a threat to open source. Oracle is far worse. 😂

@totoroot We have Edge for Linux and SQL Server for Linux.We have Azure Linux - it is a real thing, look it up. The day Microsoft became a part of the Linux kernel security mailing list was the day "Hell froze over", as far as I am concerned.Next will be Office for Linux and Teams for Linux... or does Teams exist already? 🤔 Anyway, Embrace, Extend. We are getting there.
