According to the blog post published by an #Ubuntu employee, the values of the Ubuntu Desktop are "choice, quality, support, enjoyment, performance, privacy by design, security by default, seamless integration, and looking towards the future". Yeah, right…Ubuntu Desktop "Charting A Course For The Future" With Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Next Yearhttps://www.phoronix.com/news/Ubuntu-Desktop-2023-Future

- "choice": They force you to use Snaps.- "quality": Snaps suck.- "enjoyment": Snaps suck.- "performance": Snaps are the slowest package format around.- "seamless integration": Literally no one and nothing interacts with Snaps.- "looking towards the future": How can you say that when you're shipping Snaps?

@gregorni if I've said it once I've said it a thousand times... Ubuntu is not Linux, it is a snap delivery platformyes... we can remove snaps, but why would we do that in Ubuntu when so many other Linux distributions don't have them by default?I say this a lot too...Ubuntu only helps you use Ubuntu, not LinuxOh and, let's not forget, Canonical decided sharing user information with Amazon was a good idea at one point. They quickly backtracked, but the fact the decision was made in the first place should be concerning to everyone.I... do not care for Ubuntu, does it show?

@paul @gregorni So you're saying you're not excited for the snap-based immutable desktop they're developing? Gonna stick with Ubuntu LTS, I suppose then.

@paul @gregorni @theDoctor I'm making preparations for an eventual switch, if it ends up as an "immutable snap delivering system" or whatever. I have too much stuff up and running in my Ubuntu installation to consider migrating RN, but it's on the roadmap depending on what happens next. One thing I'm sure: if I switch, I'll go to a real community distro, say Debian, Void Linux or Arch Linux (which I'm using already, all three of them, just not on my dev machine). ;)
