To help preserve software, 4am dives deep, deep into Apple II floppy disks and not only figures out progressively difficult, space-program-like copy protection on the disk, but they also document it to within an inch of its life.Come read a (40-column) overview of the epic of cracking "Spare Change", a 1983 Apple II arcade/sorting game from Br0derbund.https://archive.org/download/SpareChange4amCrack/Spare%20Change%20%284am%20%26%20san%20inc%20crack%29.txt

@textfiles Not just any documentation, but written like an author of fictional detective/adventure/intrigue novels. Super impressive work. I only got about 20% into it before speed scrolling to the end. Copy protected Apple II disks were annoying in the day but it astounds me even more now how much effort went into creating and defeating it. Was it worth it in the end?

@morgan Every moment spent cracking Apple II floppies is like a golden drop of sunlight falling into our tongues and tasting of the sweetest love

@textfiles Two early memories coming together; at 14/15 years old I:1. Learned 6502 assembly to understand how game cracking worked. 2. Wrote my first “game review” for a nascent high school magazine called Cursor, about Spare Change.
