@StillIRise1963 First of all I apologize for this. It seems that the moderation action was taken without proper checking or understanding the context. We want .world and Mastodon in general to be a safe place where there's no room for racism. If there's anything you see that should be improved on our instance please let me know directly.

@ruud Thank you. I appreciate the apology. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this happened to me, it's the second time and the 3rd post. Each post was in response to racism. I ignored it the first time, but this time, I chose not to. I also chose to make it public because it was a crystal clear example of the unfair and inexplicable things that PoCs have to deal with, on top of the complicated personal lives all humans have. 1/3

@ruud It's so ridiculous that I see no other way to read it outside of an attempt to silence my voice, to let me know that the instance supports the racist offender, and doesn't even need proof that I've broken a rule, rather I'm being castigated for not knowing my place and taking it. I came to Mastodon because of the white supremacist oligarchs controlling other social media sites. I joined .world because I'm a human in the world.2/4

@ruud I've supported the instance with donations because I believe all members have a responsibility to support the people working in the instance. That support is a show of respect for them as human beings. I only ask for the same respect to be given to me. I'm not the only person this has happened to, and I don't want it to happen to anyone, ever again.3/4

@StillIRise1963 Thank you for your replies.To be transparent: The issue in this case was caused because the moderator was trying to work through a backlog of reports and in their hurry didn’t read the context of the reported message, but instead just acted on the message itself. So the easy solution to this would be to ALWAYS check context. This would require more moderators, but that can be arranged.(1/x)

@StillIRise1963 Something I would like to ask of you, is to always report any racist posts/users. Also report any moderator actions that are not OK, like the one right here. I will make sure that when it’s a mistake, these will be prevented from happening again, and if they’re intentional, that the moderators would be removed.What I would also like is to have some ppl from the black community on the moderator team, so we can further ‘educate’ the team to prevent things like this happening (2/x)

@ruud @StillIRise1963 Do you have any system of tracking which accounts have been targets of abusive, racist or otherwise hate-based moderation reporting, in order to flag moderators to be extra careful in reading any future reports against them? This seems like something the tooling should have.

@ruud Thank you for your response. I appreciate you getting back to me, and I appreciate your due diligence. In the past, I've reported outrageously racist posts directed at me, but I've never received any sort of confirmation that action was taken. I will continue to report this behavior when I encounter it, and I hope I will be notified as to what actions were taken on behalf of the .world community. 1/2
