In a few hours, I'll take my mother to get a shot in her eyeball and no one will be wearing masks.

@StillIRise1963 hospitals not wearing masks is wild to me. I've talked to some workers about it and they're like, "yeah, I've had covid three times and it was horrible. Definitely not a cold." So why not wear a mask?I asked, politely, but the answers were generally incoherent enough I don't remember them well. I have been in some units that were masked (and requiring masks) recently. In Miami even.

@philip_cardella It's pretty crazy. I went to the cardiologist yesterday and was the only one with a mask on. I just don't understand.

@StillIRise1963 hospitals are the ones that baffle me the most but the reality is doctors being the worst patients is true. First responders are the next most baffling group but their education requirements are lighter (not knocking them--it's just not medical school) so I'm slightly less shocked that EMTs have largely not masked from what I've seen. While pulling very sick people out of their homes! Then there's cops. 🀣😢πŸ˜₯

@philip_cardella It's so nonsensical. This period in history has shown me things I wish I didn't know. People are just sad.

@StillIRise1963 totally agree. 100%. I just finished a book on the John Birch Society that makes a strong case that though that set of conspiracy loving right wing nut job fascist adjacent assholes are no longer a thing their legacy led directly to the culture that elected Trump. Until the economic crisis of the Bush years the GOP, which wanted jackasses descendant from the JBS in their ranks but only kept on the fringe, lost control of them around 2009.

@StillIRise1963 cops actually had the nerve to say cop deaths were WAY up over the last few years while failing to mention the reason why is these antimasking sociopaths were getting rampaged by COVID deaths.

@philip_cardella @StillIRise1963 The John Birch Society was founded by Fred Koch, the father of the Koch brothers.

@wjmalik @StillIRise1963 he was certainly a founder. Welch was the main founder and thought Eisenhower was a Communist and Earl Warren needed to be impeachmed for having the audacity to rule that I have a right to a lawyer and a right to remain silent and the police need to tell me that if I'm arrested. And of course Brown v Board.

@StillIRise1963 at that point the right wing conspiracy far right became the right, normalizing what every other generation had successfully rejected (mostly) as dangerously stupid. It made sense to me for explaining this moment. And is in fact keeping me up at night. The world is rejecting critical thinking and it's killing us.
