TaxesMy employer pays tax to pay me, after that I get to pay it again when I receive my paycheck! With that paycheck I have the luck to pay taxes again when I buy something and if I’m careful and save something I can also pay taxes for that :blobcatgiggle: It doesn’t seem fair but I do get to live in a country where it’s relative safe, we have good infrastructure and healthcare and a reasonable government so at the end it does balance outExcept for…. Mega corporations[2/2]The amount of taxes that a low to medium household are required to pay in general are absurd against the amount the mega corporations in this world are ‘required’ to pay. This goes not everywhere but in most places with the simple excuse that if the government doesn’t cut them a deal they will move to a country where they do get a tax breakWe should stop giving mega corps tax breaks all together so they won’t have a choiceIf you make big money, you should pay big tax

@stux Agree on taxes and mega corporations not being in our best interests.I do not agree on large governments being in our best interests. They have the ability to convince us that they are needed and promise to smooth out the rough spots in civilization. That is an illusion. When we fight continuously for small government, free markets and elimination of mega corporations, we will be in alignment.

@stux "bUt tHeY'rE JOB cReAtOrS!!!"Aren't we all, though? We're all consumers. Even producers have to consume to produce. Consumerism is what drives capitalism. And yet, policy makers only ever talk about the burdens of production. So what? Without anybody wanting (or needing) to buy their shoddy product/service, it is worthless, like that piggy bank I made way back in the 7th grade. Lift the burden off the consumers and more products/services will get bought.

@stux well I believe everyone/company should have the same taxes requisites. This is a more just and transparent system. It is also a more simple system that benefits everyone. However to address big margins and profits governments could apply some other things like if you have more than X€ of profit you can't pay minimum wages, you can't use government help and other stuff

@stuxRecently there was a Global Minimum Corporate Tax iniciative, backed by 130 OCDE countries. It did not pass in the EU because Hungary blocked it. But the Dutch government proposed to do it even unilaterally.https://www.reuters.com/markets/europe/five-big-eu-states-implement-minimum-corporate-tax-if-no-eu-deal-2022-09-09/

@stux That's a bit too simplistic: Mega corporations also employ people and they pay the same ancillary costs as small(er) companies. But those are usually earmarked for specific social securities and not considered taxes in general. Income taxes are something different from that, so that comparison you made is a bit off.

@stux exactly that’s why, when the microsoft or meta datacenters burn (1 day, they will), the fire department should only put part of the fire out. Goes for tax-dodgers like max verstappen as well. No more free rides.
