I rarely have a pack around for long enough to age for any serious length of time but I do buy the 12 box multipacks, I shall have to see if the final box is any better than the first, I've never noticed any difference but was never really looking for one đ¤

I didn't know this, I haven't noticed any change and have been using the stuff for 20 odd years. The box still has the dude with hair on it I'll have to see what distinguishing features each might have.

If a friend that makes some sticks and soaps with oakmoss oil, it smells like old book leather. It may have some of that in if it's an aged leathery smell you're picking up on.

Old paper had a fairly distinct fragrance to it too, so it's probably a combo but the leather bit was all I could think of and her sticks have an old 'library' odour that my brain linked the two up..

It was hippy ex that got me into them and I've managed to find them in every country I've been too since. I've always gotten them from hippy shops of one kind or another, the type that sells crystals, bongs and 'exotic' bits of tat.
