Ugh.. I never learn.. :nkoFacepalm2: Sometimes I tell my parents (dad and his gf) about my work and the things we do online and create etc but always I get a reply like: "Cool." or "Ok."I know they are having trouble believing me since they never could 'understand it' and I told myself not to bring anything up again but sometimes I do and get disappointed big timeI rarely speak to them via text and often it's about their website.. super fun time🙄

@stux I’m in the same category with your parents. Honestly, I don’t understand computers and they can be irritating. Fortunately, like your parents, I too have kids who work with computers to call for help before I start looking for a hammer to (ahem) “modify” the computer. 🙂

@stux I feel like tech has become a chasm between me and family who are left, my parents died early so I don't have to help them with anything online, they were gone before iPhones came along and one before AOL.But with those remaining, I am only interesting when there is a problem, then I am remembered. And once I am not the available helper, I no longer exist. This is a period of change and some got on and some didn't even know it was departing. You created a family here.

@stux Put it into a perspective they understand. Growing up with Balkan parents teaches you that. Also where is your mother?

@stux ah. Very relatable. @trinsec can probably confirm. But the Dutch sign for father is whipping your finger down your cheek (from eye straight to chin). I try to remember this as a tear of disappointment. Because ether dad's are disappointed or disappointing.

@stux Families can be complicated! They don't understand what you're achieving & working on, but they have their own website? :blob_aww:

@stux a familiar feeling. It does degrade career satisfaction a bit to not be able to explain it to one's mom. When I worked in semicondor physics and later chip design I would try to explain what I was doing in high-level terms to family, but got vague smiles. When family related what I did to other people it was just generally 'he works in computers.' Occasionally "in IT" or "internet & websites." Some of my chips did indeed go into a backbone router, so…

@stux A psychologist once told me that without what our parents do to us she would lose at least 50% of her work.
