Arghh.. again my mom got scammed online because she bought something from a store that’s known for scamming :nkoFacepalm2: Seriously 1 search result down is all the info she needs..I give up. No matter how many times I try to explain in all forms, or let her ask me first to be sure she just keep falling for it😟 This is the 3rd or 4th time this year alone

@stux Maybe something like adguard, nextdns or similar service would help.

@stux Sorry to hear this. . . . Unfortunately this keeps lots of people just shopping at the behemoth Amazon, safe but has "issues" of its own.

@stux @Albert180 Could you…? Take a look at/talk to her about what she shops for, pick the top 3-4 in each category, whitelist those, then block the rest? Basically the same/similar as to what you’d do for a pre-teen.I know she’s not a kid…but she is your mom. Talking to her and reviewing what she does/needs may help you with the problem.

@stux I have Outlook email for business. >5 phishing emails each and every day. I figure that $MSFT is trying to teach me, at 74yo, discernment.

@stux I’m sorry this has happened to your mom.Unfortunately, older folks are prime targets for #OnlineScams due to their low technical ability and generally more trusting nature from a living in a time when a person’s word or a handshake was as good as a contract. The frustrating part is the total lack of accountability for search engines and social media sites that accept (encourage?) money from scammers to place exploitive ads in front of users and then look the other way.

@stux I would guess that there exist already filter lists for that Bullshit. That was even a feature in 2007 Norton Internet Security, so I guess something similar still exists

@stux unfortunately there's only so much you can do, but I do hope your mom stops using these stores, that it sinks into her brain that these stores are bad.

@stux Recognisable...Thank god my mom is quite 'afraid' of computers, but she's already more than capable of ordering stuff through the phone, with sometimes also questionable mail order stores. This older generation has been so thoroughly brainwashed with commercials all day long on their linear TV addiction, that they'll buy anything (they don't need)...
