Almost all the women in my area (at my parish, in the homeschool co-op) have thyroid issues. Is it really that common, or do we live in some kind of environmental contaminant?

@mcread Only one person that I know, and they didn't move all that far away. Just about a half hour away.I have no baseline for women and thyroid issues. I just thought it odd that so many are having issues. But perhaps that's within the standard pattern?

@DaddyO Yes and yes. Thyroid conditions should not be common but they are increasingly so along with many other "diseases" they've normalized. They've stopped studies on it but mobile phone usage has been linked.

How much of that is diet related or metabolic disorders? Like morbid obesity fucks up your entire endocrine system and the thyroid is most definitely affected. I always think it is a hilarious cope when fat people say they are fat because of their thyroid, and not that their thyroid is messed up because they are so fat. It's like putting the cart before the horses and then blaming the horses for not being able to pull it.

@TinyHouse4Life @DaddyO Very common might me overstating it a bit. I know of 3 and one is because she had a genetic condition that created a tumor near her pituitary and removing it messed up her entire hormone system. That would be an interesting map, they have all our medical data, make each condition a dot and let's see how that looks.

@average_random_joe @DaddyO From the Cleveland Clinic- Thyroid disease is very common in the United States, with an estimated 20 million people having some type of thyroid disorder. A woman is about five to eight times more likely to be diagnosed with a thyroid condition than a man. It can be present at birth (typically hypothyroidism) and develop as you age (often after menopause in women)

@Bead @DaddyO It's interconnected. It is a cope but it also isn't. I know there are increasing numbers of obese people who won't even try but many people can't overcome a bad environment with diet and exercise. There are a lot of people who do all the right things in regards to fitness and diet and still struggle because they're being microwaved by their devices, routers, towers and antennas and even their cars. Of course there are many other factors at play too. These are epigenetic responses that can be reversed but you cannot completely heal in the same environment you got sick in. It's estimated 20 million people in US have some thyroid dysfunction (low ball number) and close to 60% of those are unaware. Your thyroid controls all your hormones that affect all body processes. I think it's safe to say most people suffer from some sort of thyroid dysfunction due to modern life. Hardly anyone feels good mentally or physically.

@Bead @DaddyO Yes. I've seen in many thyroid patients who are treated with hormones in medications you see their weight go down BUT they still remain within the overweight/obese range, even with a good diet and exercise. You cannot heal in this environment while being indoors most of the day, inactive, being microwaved all day, microplastics in your blood, pesticides on your "food" etc. I hate it as well.

When I retired I straight up gained 20lbs in six months. One day I looked in the mirror, thought to myself "this is unacceptable," and then unfucked myself within two months.A lot of people vastly overestimate how much they exercise and grossly underestimate their caloric intake. Yes, there are conditions that make it harder to lose weight; however those conditions can be overcome with discipline and effort.

@Bead @DaddyO I agree... if you haven't already developed significant thyroid dysfunction. Once the threshold is passed, the chances of overcoming these conditions in the same environment you got sick in are very low. At best it becomes a disease you will struggle with and have to treat for life with additional complications added in years to come.

@feralphilosophernc @Omega_Variant @Bead @DaddyO Seaweeds and other seafoods, dairy, eggs are great for this. The stability of iodized salt decreases with high temps (hot trucks, warehouses) and exposure to air so I wouldn't rely on it.

Dashi is a great source of iodine. I throw a couple of dried pieces of kombu in a pot of cold water, heat it up to just shy of boiling, remove from heat, fish the kombu out, and then add in some katsuboshi for five minutes. Once you filter the katsuboshi out you have a iodine rich broth that is loaded with flavors and can serve as the basis for a bunch of soups and sauces. You don't even have to use it exclusively for Japanese cooking either. Dashi is loaded with glutamates and nucleotides which combine to make MSG and will massively enhance the flavor of whatever you add it too. If you are making a heavy stew or soup you won't even taste the seafood flavor. Highly recommended as a base for chili.

@DaddyO you should get some liquid iodine from seed man. I prefer the X2 but the X3 is not bad either. It could be a contaminant area or a combination of things especially if your sample set is older women. The vax is doing bad things to thyroid as well, mostly hypothyroidism.
