Never even thought about it but what laws do apply when you’re on a cruise ship.. :blobcatthinkOwO: (No I would never do a cruise. I like our planet and I’m to poor)https://people.howstuffworks.com/cruise-ship-law.htm

@stux John Oliver did a great episode on this, with real world examples of actual murders on cruise ships that were never investigated

@stux I've been on 2 cruises. Never again. People are HORRIBLE spoiled whiny brats that refuse to wear masks or wash their hands. This was back in 2020. I think we were the last cruise ship to disembark without being held at port for days because of COVID.The crew kept asking people to use hand sanitizer and even gave us masks. People refused.Luckily I never got sick (I doubt anyone on the cruise got sick either, but that's beside the point)

@stux Not interested in traditional cruises, but did take a Norway fjord cruise. I think that route is all under Norwegian law, as well as tightening eco requirements for ships permitted in their fjords.

@stux Part of me wants to see what being on a cruise is like, part of me feels like I'd rather be on land. 🤷🏾‍♂️

@freezombie haha nooo!I’m not planning on becoming rich ever. I would try to spend it back into something that needs it so I will ‘personally’ always stay below something of a lineI hate hoarding money or people who do in vast quantitiesMaybe I would buy up the ships and let them demolish :nkoHammer:

@stux never understood cruises. If I am paying a shitload of money to travel, you're gonna bet you're ass Imma make my own schedule and not be stuck to a boat for at least half the time, looking at water and hopefully coastlines. Much rather get lost in city streets or countryside roads/railways.

@stux not for a holiday, but I think I’d be up for living on one and working remotely, like those stories where people have worked out it was cheaper to buy a cabin than rent a house. No cooking, no chores, just able to get on without annoyingly timed interruptions.

@stux Who in their right mind would go on a cruise in the middle of pandemic. They say that they test people but I'm pretty sure they just take people's word for it that they've been tested. Also, the tests are not 100%.A cruise ship is a petri dish.#covid19 #vax #respirator #mask

@stux same applies to outbreaks of infectious disease, so long as they don't put into port....

@stux This is not entirely true. The law all ships must follow are the same. You have the Maritime Law, set by IMO (Intern.. mar.. org..). Then you have the local laws of the territorial waters which the ships are in. When in international water, the ship will follow the laws of the "flag state", which is the state the ship is registered in. So, a US flagged ship MUST follow US federal laws while in international waters. We must study maritime law as part of our maritime Master education.

@stux there's a lot of vids on this -- it can be very sketchy and not all operators are as diligent as they should be
