@Krisss Ok very interesting it's the amount of realistic detail I try to apply to my landscapes. But I've never painted people. Very cool.

@crcordray Thats interesting indeed! Do you want to go for a more figurative style in your art? You might want to have a look at the works of Nick Savides. They are mainly city scenery, but he often adds some nature to his works as well, like a big tree for instance.. If I run into a figurative landscape painter, I'll be sure to let you know!

@crcordray Some names that come to mind are Graham Gercken, David Lloyd Glover and Rimantas Virbickas. I'd be curious if this is somewhat the direction you want to go with your own landscape paintings maybe?

@Krisss I'm still learning oil painting with my current art mentor. I've completed one painting and I am close to completing a 2nd one. My method is to paint from photographs I've taken on my many canoe and hiking trips. I think if I were to include people in my paintings they would be more like David Lloyd Glover sort of "out of focus" in the background. The landscapes are not unlike Graham Gercken in style-with Canadian shield rock, Boreal forests, or other trees native to prairies.

@crcordray I somehow had that idea already that the works of David Lloyd Glover would "speak" to you the most.. How long have you been taking art classes? And do you have a history in art as well?

@Krisss I think consistently for 1.5 years but I'm not sure consistent is an accurate description - Summer has been too busy with friends and family and work. My last 3 hour session, in studio, was in mid June - now in August I have two sessions booked - history in art has mostly been in elementary and grade school - and now in my 50s I am finally putting in significant effort, learning brush strokes, blending, and concepts of layered painting.

@crcordray Thats wonderful that at that age you have found a new passion! Do you have your works anywhere online? I'd love to check them out! With me, my passion also didn't start before I was 42. Ofcourse I would visit a museum from time to time. But last year I had a bad flu and sat at home for weeks, and figured let's check out what Mastodon is all about. And here I ran into artists, and found out how much I enjoy art, and I went on the www to search for art, and now I'm hooked 😊
