🌶️ take - Linux and open source software in general doesn’t have a UX, or quality, or design, or fragmentation, or whatever other problem that constantly comes up. What it really has is capitalism and culture problem. No one can make enough money to truly compete by making open source software. The other problems would be solved if all people could make enough money to live comfortably by doing the right and ethical thing.#linux #OpenSource #capitalism

@micah Personally, I think you have the tail end of the problem right. However, I believe that the largest problem is user stagnation. Most users absolutely refuse to change even as things get worse. Windows users won't leave 11. Adobe users refuse to try gimp, etc. Mac users can't think of using a window manager that works.People don't like change. Linux is change to them.

I am extremely fortunate in the fact that I can make a living working on open source software, but the sad reality is that this is not the norm. Most open source developers have to make it a hobby done in their spare time and this simply is not sustainable if we want the software to survive and succeed. The unfortunate truth is that most the time the good and right thing doesn’t pay the bills.

@micah It has a socialism problem. Intellectual proprerty is socialized thought. Certain people are awarded exclusive permission by the commissars of thought to think certain things. Your thoughts will be redistributed to those we think can make the best use of them."For thee greater good, of COURSE, comrade!"
