Twitter is kinda like 'anything goes' and is totally unsafeThreads seems content-wise better but people find it rather boring and it still has to prove better privacy featuresThe Fediverse is the perfect solution it seems. For all kind of content there's a platform you can self-host making it perfect to your needsEven if you don't self-host, there is soo much choice in instances, there's always a good fit :fediverse: And that's just one point :mastogrin:

A thing many new people joining the Fediverse are having issue with is finding their family, friends or known ones and I can understand that!The devs are working on ways to make the onboarding experience better and easierBut it als has to come a little from the people so to sayFor example, it took a bit of time for email adresses to become the 'standard' also!The more people adapt these technologies, the sooner it will hopefully become the new standardThe only difference is the extra @

@stux I still don't know the e-mail addresses of many of my family members. It isn't the first @ that's necessarily the problem, it is which instance/server/provider they are @ at.Easiest thing is just to ask them for the full account name - e-mail or fediverse. 🙂

@stux When I first joined my gut reaction was “What the hell’s up with searching?!” But, a lot of the people I talked to (especially those in marginalized groups) were more concerned about bad actors being able to zero in on them than not being able to search and connect as easily. It really made me think - this is a lot more complicated than it first looks from a technical AND a human stance. I think those views are important to consider when setting stuff up is all.

@stux Threads is Meta so not very comfortable. Fediverse, for better or worse, is not going to be sold.That is the only thing I look at. Go to another Jack app? No thanks. Meta ties your insta to threads and, rumor has it, if you close your Threads account your insta closes too. I just don't want to deal with lunatic billionaires dabbling in my life.

@stux I do find the level of "moral apostles" here on fedi is relatively high. Send someone a discenting comment and an army of "tut-tut-tut you can't say that!" clowns drops out of the blue sky. Apparently, the way to go here is to agree with pretty much everyone on nearly anything, no matter how deranged.

@stux but beware that Threads is still a limited beta. Just wait until everyone is allowed on the platform and see what happens. But the fediverse lacks the spoonfeeding some people seems to require. It is not a matter of creating an account and having your feed magically filled with interesting content. You have to invest time on the platform to get your own, nicely curated, feed.
