@stux Are current patreon members not covering the cost of the servers? Perhaps you should stress that to more of your members. It doesn’t seem fair that admins should have to dip into their own pockets. Also perhaps consider closing registrations?

@stux The only thing I can say is I don’t think anyone really sees the server announcements. We ideally need better support for that in the 3rd party appsI don’t know how acceptable it is to email people. I personally don’t see a problem with that

@wonkothesane @stux This is definitely something the fediverse is going to have to figure out. I would bet most instances are having to dip into personal funds to cover costs (I certainly have to over at #tilvids ). If people want to live in a world without pervasive ads, there is a cost to it.

@stux @wonkothesane Are you trying to run this as a business or a charity? Either is fine, but you've reached a size where you need to treat the question seriously. I'm already making a monthly contribution. Do I need to increase it? I, at least, would find it helpful to know what actual budget for the instance needs to be (including paying the staff a living wage), and what the budget shortfall is.

@stux Happy to chip in more! Thanks for all the great work you do. I really hope community support can make server bills sustainable (and eventually be enough to recoup what you've already spent into running servers!) I try to spread my donations across all the fedi services I use. If possible, I've been asking people to throw together a breakdown of recurring/one-time income/costs, so that it's easy to tell which services need more support!
