@malakai @alex oh yeah you're right. mastodon despises full text search, that was always curious to me. i never understood because ours always worked and works even better now -- to me as an operator this doesn't really add any overhead to my instance or slow my users down so it never made sense but then @r000t made that search engine for posts and i realized pretty quick lol

The sjw argument is that one should only be allowed to search hashtags and not the actual post body because monsters like us will search for what minorities are saying and proceed to oppress them even more.Which is of course ludicrous since these people use standardised hashtags like “transmisogyny”, “begpost” etc anyway, so an oppressor can just look for those.

I believe an educated user is more empowered to take control of their health and safety. I also believe that mollycoddling people leads to learned helplessness. Ultimately, if people understand that their public posts might be indexed, they will think about what they are posting publicly. On the flip side, if you promote the idea that anybody who makes a search engine will be punished, then you are also promoting the idea that people are safe to post sensitive things publicly. That's wrong, and it sets people up for failure, and threatens their health and safety.r000tles is fighting for health and safety, as well as freedom. r000tykins is fighting for the disadvantaged.
