@clay To be clear, I am not saying I dislike anyone in Maui, or that I feel zero sympathy for them.It is just that of all the tragic things in the world, people living a very artificial and pampered lifestyle seeing the grim harsh realities of nature does not fall very high on the list of things to weep about.

@Cosmic A high cost of living makes you less rich not more.Every structure in these photos was destroyed. Whether a daily driver or up on cinder blocks in the front yard, 25 year old cars are always a sign of a rich neighborhood.Even if they all had enough money to pay for a hotel room for a year and had insurance, it still sucks if your house burns down with every other house on your street, many with families inside. 80 of your neighbors dying is pretty gnarly. Actual deaths could be 500+

Prayer and faith in God do wonders.The family gathered to clear combustibles from around the house when a fire truck with a crew of three men arrived. They were sent by USAA (our fire insurance company) to help out!It was wonderful, they helped us carve a new firebreak, then Cal Fire assigned them to spend the night on our Ridgeline.By the morning, the fire was knocked down. As the crew wrapped up, we felt blessed and protected! 🙏🏻
