any place music is discussed having a pile of messages about some track being added to or removed from spotify is proof we have strayed from god's light

@natalie if the brunt of your music listening is dependent on whether or not spotify has it, you're not a fan of music, you're a fan of corporate brand

@Evol@toot.community i think that might be a stretch because a lot of younger people literally do not know a world before spotify, but otherwise yes i do think it's basically necessary to look outside of what is algorithmically handed to you

@Evol@toot.community this is some typical annoying gatekeepingconvenience and portability is something people should be allowed to valuenot everyone has the means or skills or spoons to take their music with them or have it be accessible in all their music listening environments (e.g. through some form of home NAS with external access or clever cloud setup way or permanently syncing to a portable device that does audio playback and keeping track of storage and regularly cycling in and out what files are on there), the main thing about spotify is that is a managed service that works quite location and device independent(btw i own two cd shelves with CDs in them and an - if small - amount of vinyl records and have purchased shit on bandcamp and ototoy, spotify still wins the "i can listen to this at work and in my car" factor)
