How is praying about something different than thinking about something? I mean in actual PRACTICE? Does praying about a thing verses thinking about a thing produce different results?

@Vox A prayer doesn't presume the same limitations you place on yourself when thinking or meditating. Whether success is from a divine source or you unlocking your true potential as a creative being able to influence reality, prayer doesn't require belief in your own power merely your importance to be heard.[Meditation, Prayer and Spiritual Healing: The Evidence](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3396089/) concludes >1600 studies examining the correlation between religious and spiritual participation and health.

@Vox Your words very rarely change anyone else's mind. Is it any different, in practice, to talk to yourself aloud than to talk to someone else?

@Vox for me, just me and my practices -> praying opens my request to outside help (God, spirits, frequencies) meditation is my attempt to understand and analyze a situation to gain understanding. ((There are studies out there that support the power or prayer and even power of positive thinking- we can trick our brains relatively easily))

@Vox Mumbling under your breath to no-one achieves nothing. Deities are not real.

@Vox Pray meant to ask in Middle English. To be made in the Image of God( Gn 1:26) means that He respects your free will and won't interfere without request. Ironically, the greatest change comes not from asking for stuff but from merely contemplating God. This may seem like just thinking, but one is still asking God to reveal Himself.

@HempressEmilyM Indeed. The placebo effect is an excellent demonstration of the power of mind over matter. Thanks for the input ๐Ÿ™‚

@Yetimon I think deities are real in that they're archetypal representations of aspects of the human condition, and that's useful, psychologically and sociologically. So an appeal to a deity could really be an appeal to an ideal. Maybe even an appeal to our own best version of ourselves. But maybe that's just thinking...

@Trinitycreekmeats I like this answer. It leads to more questions. Like, how do you know if and when God is revealed? How can you be SURE it's God and not just your own mind? Or are they the same thing, ultimately?

@FortyTwo You make an excellent point. If our words rarely change the minds of other humans, how much less effect will they have on a hypothetical transcendental being?

@Vox The 'beloved disciple' called God Logos John 1:1, which Aristotle defined as reasoned discourse. If you are open to the Truth, then you can find it. As for the latter, "I know there is a God, and it isn't me.

@Vox intelligence doesn't even have anything to do with it.If conversation accomplishes nothing, why make the attempt? Why talk to anybody, transcendental or pedestrian? Why post on obscure social networks?
