This type of militarization and brutalization of the border is the manifestation of a level of cruelty and disregard for the lives of fellow human beings that is simply disgusting, disturbing, and outrageous. No one who is ok with this gets to call themselves “decent” in any way.https://twitter.com/laikenjordahl/status/1688976652234371072?s=46&t=1xecvNVImNo8TKt3oEvqnA

@tzimmer_history @Kyleric The “saws” are fixed, not rotating or powered, as some replies seem to assume. The context-limiting extreme closeup in the image, and calling them “circular saws” (which implies rotation and, well, sawing) instead of something like “serrated plates”, seems misleading. https://www.newsweek.com/video-texas-floating-barrier-saws-rio-grande-1818433They’re inhuman and Abbot is a monster. But I think an average reader of the tweet in the image might get a wrong idea.

@sidb @tzimmer_history @Kyleric Agreed. Circular saw blades. But they're not exactly static; they're bobbing slowly in the water and humans are moving up and down, and if swimming, aren't in a position to see well. No lessening of the intentional cruelty involved. The makers and installers of these things need to be doxxed.

@tomjennings @sidb @tzimmer_history @Kyleric let's roll a couple of those over the floor in some republican rally. Let's see whether those barriers are harmless.

@tzimmer_history Isn't the Rio Grand shared ownership with Mexico? Aren't these death traps a literal violation of international law?

@atatassault @tzimmer_history No, because everyone country has a right to establish border barriers and regulate entry.
