The rights I want the government to protect, in an ideal world, apply to individuals, and are “negative” rights, as in restrictions on what government can interfere with. There’s no such thing as a “right to healthcare” because healthcare is a service that someone would need to provide, so my right to it would conflict with their right to NOT provide me healthcare. If an individual arrives at a perspective like “black people steal shit, ergo I do not want to employ people who steal shit,” then the rights of the individual are the rights that matter. If I was black person, saying I have a right to be employed by whoever I want to be employed by would have the same problem that claiming a right to healthcare would have. I can’t force people to associate with me, so I would have to keep looking for jobs until I found one.
