And the media in particular is simply unwilling to say that Dominionism is the motivation for christo-fascism, not racism per se, or that the climate deniers largely believe that white republican jesus is going to make them rulers of a newly refurbished planet and kill off everyone else (and in the meantime, they'll help it along).It is extremely dishonest of the media to not say these things, and say them clearly. People can't create effective strategies if they don't understand the real motivations of these cranks.

But as for holding power, they'd have to be disqualified from running on some grounds, and it can't be because they are right wing christians per se, since religious tests are forbidden for holding office. You may be less aware that declarations of people being "mentally unfit" was factor in forced sterilisation, upheld by SCOTUS shockingly recently. The family in that case was not developmentally disabled. The motivation in sterilising them without informing them was racism.You're also certainly aware that being LGBT was, and in some places still is, considered a mental illness. Less recently but within living memory, unwed motherhood could trigger incarceration in special homes or mental hospitals.Its troubling you would appeal to racist, sexist, queerphobic systems of stigmatisation, incarceration, abuse, and disenfranchisement as a model.This isn't a paradox of tolerance problem. It involves street fights whenever they try to have rallies. It involves supporting striking workers. It involves loud protests for justice. (If your synagogue/mosque/church/etc supports trans rights or climate action or reproductive rights, then say it loudly inside and outside. Pass a resolution and put out a press release. Do the same in your union, your PTA, your city council, your softball league, and every other civic organisation.)Falling back on voter suppression and smearing the integrity of mentally ill people makes you look weak. Its hiding behind daddy state. But daddy state doesn't love liberals.If you want to win, the power is in numbers. Build bridges. Build strength. Stand up for solidarity.

This is a massive social problem that urgently needs addressing, but it's not helpful to elide this with mental health. The fascistic solutions you propose would be a massive overreach of state power.And would not work. You could certainly succeed in demonizing mentally ill people and reducing their rights and perhaps even start a moral panic, but you don't have the power to impose this on your supposed targets, something I think you actually know. So as the only possible outcome of this won't help stop fascism but could help its advance, perhaps we could pivot to something that isn't a moral outrage and work on building solidarity? Instead of setting it on fire?
